IN THE NAME OF ROCK AND ROLL (Graham Charnock)

    Em2-3-4/C-2-3-4/B-2-3-4-1-2-3-4/ x2
[Em]Playing in a band, you [C]don’t understand where the [B]time goes.
A [Em]sleep on your feet in [C]front of a crowd wearing [B]strange clothes (don’t understand)
In the name of rock and [Em]roll-2-3-4-, [B]in the name of rock and [Em]roll [B]

    If you’re [Em]gonna play guitar, [A]play it like you’re gonna [D]cry
    If you’re [Em]gonna play the drums, [A]play them like you’re gonna [D]die
And [Bm]I’ll lean back on my [G]bass guitar, and [A]dream about the day I’m gonna [C]be a star
[Em]Playing in a band, you [C]don’t understand where the [B]time goes.
In the name of rock and [Em]roll, [B]in the name of rock and [E]roll

[E]What’cha gonna do when the [A]ruins start rollin’ [E]over you [A](what’cha gonna do)
And the [E]woman you live with has [A]left you to the mercy of the [E]laws [A](what’cha gonna do)
    And those [E]fairground freaks, [A]ooh-ahh, they’re tryin’ to [E*]freeze you out [A]
And you [E]feel so low, you [A]can’t even reach for the [E]floor. [A]

You can [D]take what you want, you can [A]take what you need,
You can [D]take my dressing room [E]star
But, please, don’t [A]take my [D]Fender gui[E]tar (in the name of rock and
    [A]roll)
don’t take my [D]Fender gui[E]tar (in the name of rock and
    [A]roll)
don’t take my [D]Fender gui[E]tar (in the name of rock and [A]roll)

[Em]Playing in a band, you [C]don’t understand where the [B]time goes.
A [Em]sleep on your feet in [C]front of a crowd wearing [B]strange clothes
In the name of rock and [Em]roll,[B] in the name of rock and [Em]roll [B]

[Em]Play another song,[A] just like the one [D]before
[Em]Lay it on strong if you’re [A]gonna lay it on at [D]all
And [Bm]I’ll lean back and I’m [G]cruising’ slow, [A]dreaming of the time I can [C]let it go

[Em]Playing in a band, you [C]don’t understand where the [B]time goes
In the name of rock and [Em]roll, [B]in the name of rock and [E]roll
don’t [A]take my Fender gui[E]tar (in the name of rock and
    [A[roll)
don’t take my Fender gui[E]tar (repeat and fade)

E* is another correction--errm, carry on!

According to the blurb on the box of the 'New World's Fair Box Set' that Griffin released in 1994, Mr. M says the Graham Charnock was "gigging with an R&B band while helping to edit 'New World's' magazine."
