    Voivod - The Multiverse

    An eternal mystery
    Has been discovered
    It is now reality
    Never say never
    I've been working hard
    Down in my basement
    I don't know where I am
    Where I've been sent

Now if I get it right
I'm trapped in the other side

    Esoteric questions
    Have been answered
    What really matters
    Is the anti-matter

Now am I lost in time?
Or caught in the other side
    In parts or whole
    I'm in this hole
    Will I spend my life?
    Locked in the other side

    The Multiverse

I've moved the time from space
    Based on action
    I've made only one mistake
    I tried it on

    If I get it right
I'm trapped in this other side
    In parts or whole
    I'm all alone
    Am I lost in time?
Or caught in this other side
    It's in my head
    I might be dead
    Am I losing my mind?
    Locked in this other side
    I am losing my mind
    Forever, this other side

These guys have apparently done a whole album of Elric songs.

Skelator - Elric the Dragon Prince

Oh, the sailor on the Seas of Fate
The weird of the White Wolf
He's Elric the Emperor of Melniboné
    His fate, a dreamful curse
Born a weak albino, he wears his dragon helm
A servant to Lord Arioch, the highest Duke of Hell
He's Elric of Melniboné, the fallen empire
There he waits in darkness on his ruby throne

He is Elric, The Dragon Prince
    The Eternal Champion
He is Elric, The Dragon Prince
    The Dragonlord of destruction

On the edge of extinction his empire lives on
But hand of after is reaching, soon it will be undone
Cymoril has been taken, his one and only love
By her foul souled brother Lord Yyrkoon

Here's an intersting one - they've got one about Harlan Ellison too.

Corum. The last of his race
Had to kick ass over sixteen planes
Elric. Kept alive by his sword
Stormbringer stole souls for the Chaos Lords.
Eternal Champion. Multiverse of the mind
      Everything he wrote somehow intertwined
      Michael Moorcock born in 1939!
The Sundred Worlds! The Wrecks of Time!
      Moor...cock..cock...cock! Moor...cock..cock...cock!

      Moorcock smoked pot with Lemmy
You think you wrote a lot of books, he wrote twice as many
      Von Beck was Mike's Grandad
Best Eternal Champion a kid ever had
The Golden Barge or any of his stories
      Ironic fables, simple allegories
The great rock-n-roll swindle... Well, why the fuck not?
Hawkwind and Moorcock write books and rock
      Moor...cock..cock...cock! Moor...cock..cock...cock!

            Domine - DRAGONLORD

They come from the Young Kingdoms
with new hopes and ancient hate
By thousands they ride to the battlefield
I can feel the ground shake
I must rise from my throne
            Champion of Destiny and Pride
I must leave these ancient halls
            with Stormbringer at my side

            [Chorus]
For I am the Bringer of War
I am The Bearer Of The Black Sword
and my name will be known to all
Lord Elric of the Bright Empire of Melnibone
            The Dragonlord

            Who will need the illusion
of new love and new found faith
            When everything around you
            lay destroyed and dead

I am doomed to walk again
            on the Path Of Destruction
I'm the last of my Race
and I must fight my final battle

            [Chorus]
For I am the Bringer of War
I am The Bearer Of The Black Sword
and my name will be known to all
Lord Elric of the Bright Empire of Melnibone
            The Dragonlord

            [Chorus]
For I am the Bringer of War
I am The Bearer Of The Black Sword
and my name will be known to all
Lord Elric of the Bright Empire of Melnibone
            The Dragonlord

Might be a stretch but the term "Multiverse" is used once in the lyrics; what the hell...I really love this particular song so I believe that it has a place here!

There are some really great songs in this thread, the only problem is it seems there just aren't that many songs based on Mike's works for us to post about.

I have been digital pen pals (probably the best way to describe it) with the singer from Skelator for over 10 years now, back when they only had demos. Their first EP had a narrative intro track called "Time of the Sword Rulers" that went into a song called "The Coming of Chaos" about this guy named Corum. I honestly thought he made it all up until I came across a Chronicles of Corum comic book adaption from First at the flea market and had my mind blown. I told him about it and he told me about the novels and I got them right away. With all the heavy philosophy constantly intertwined with the brilliantly imaginative fast-paced fantasy adventure, which blended particularly perfectly in the context of the Multiverse concept, the trilogy instantly became my favorite books and Mike my favorite author, and both have remained so ever since.

Here are "Time of the Sword Rulers" and "The Coming of Chaos":

There are more Moorcock-based Skelator tunes as well as some others I have in mind I'll be back with in future posts.

I'm not trying to pimp this in every possible corner of this forum, so if anyone's interested in my proto progressive thrash metal song about the Karmanal of Zert from "The Queen of the Swords" you can check out this thread:

along with 'Veterans of the Psychic Wars' and 'Sun Jester', I believe...

I wonder if there are any songs inspired by Mike that aren't metal?

These guys named their whole band Yrkoon. Not sure the songs are related but I think it counts if you name your band after a Moorcock character...

True... I guess I was thinking more of the music, but I honestly have no idea how involved he was in creating it.

Good question about the metal genre though. I certainly can't think of any!
