  • Gabriel Yared for the Elric movie score (opinions?)

I just got my hands on some mp3's of his...all I can say is this guy has to be one of the best film music composers out there 8O ! I've contacted him and he seems like a polite and modest fellow who is more than a bit miffed by the treatment composers like himself have been given in Hollywood. I don't blame him, well-crafted anything seems to be an anomaly in mainstream these days . His style is in line with the heavyweights of yore like Miklos Rozsa, so that his scores can stand apart from a movie as symphonic poems in their own right. Here are 3 samples of his music:

Sounds like a softer/lighter version of Basil Poledouris's style used in Conan The Barbarian. At least the Troy stuff sounds like it..

I and some others think Krzysztof Penderecki's style should be employed for a more darker/omnious tone. He did scores for The Shining and some scores for The Exorcist. His style is dark and apocalyptical but also brooding.

Anyway... It's up to the producers and such just who gets employed..

The track 'Funeral Pyres' from Yared's Troy is very dark on the other hand. It's a shame that Jerry Goldsmith isn't around any more ...just listen to his opening theme for the movie 'Omen':

      Now that's some scary stuff 8O ...
