I'm of two minds about this...

...seeing what they did with Carnivale (First Season brilliant, second written by chimps on crack), and Deadwood, both ending with next to nothing resolved in the series.

Liked, and I very much do like the idea. And SA, I notice you din't mention the fine, fine series, Game of Thrones. Granted, the ones you mentioned I never watched.

I think Showtime and Starz could make it equal or better than HBO, since
            they had Tudors and Spartacus.

I prefer Hawkmoon as a TV series!

            Chronologically easier to film.
Excellent places to drop in the cliffhanger at the end of each episode.
A virtual buffet of hack and slash scenes.
            Superb inner mind character development.
            Multiple locations.
Tons of armour, arms and costumes.
            Castles.
Awesome scenery, and they could even film some actual locations.
Cool ships and vehicles. (and Flamingos)
            Contest of will power.
            Delightful and interesting characters.
            High Adventure!

And, since it's an HBO type, love scenes with women in fancy masks!

I'm totally against it! i would love to see an Elric series, but not one from HBO: simply check the difference between AGOT series and books:

              1) The Others are transformed from an alien civilization (in the prologue of the first book it is stated that they use armour, they have a language and the like) into a freaking monster with too much heat as to wear a t-shirt

              2) The story is revealed right from the beginning: if you read the books you don't get that Varys is the mastermind behind everything that occurs until the last book, while in the series it's him who states such a thing in the first season. Come on!

              3) Too much sex!!! i mean, if the story includes a lot of intercourse, be it, but then the series shows a lot more than the books. I would prefer Elric to be remembered as a fine book than as an almost pornographic series.

And regarding the idea of a Hawkmoon series - i would love it, but if you wanted to use the actual locations it should be a work of an european company. I'm not sure there is any such company powerful enough to shoot such a series.

Look, the novel AGoT functions nicely as a murder mystery that leaves clues but doesn't tell the reader what the motive was for a good 400 pages give or take (I didn't count) while the TV show tells you point-blank in the first 20 min. If someone does make an Elric movie or TV show I won't complain about every little thing but I really hope it can do better than that. Having said that, if they put the effort into it that they did Boardwalk Empire or The Sopranos is could be brilliant. Personally I'd almost rather see The Elric Saga made as an animated series for adults so that it won't be tainted by the politics of big name stars or the price of special effects. Then again, if it was done the way Battlestar Gallactica was I'd love it...

Too much s3x? Is that possible??

I don't think the Elric Saga would have a lot of x-cenes, maybe the important one would with the dream thief, but apart from that?

I know there is not so much sex in Elric's novels, but there is neither in AGOT. It's just that the HBO tends to put in a lot more of that kind of scenes in their productions. It's their "personal brand" so as to speak.

I don't know HBO (well, I watched The Wire and some other series) but I think GRR Martin has something to say in the matter.

                      Anyway in those times...who knows.

If HBO makes Elric into a tv series, the best part will be that probably the entire saga would be translated to Portuguese and issued here.
"From time to time I demonstrate the inconceivable, or mock the innocent, or give truth to liars, or shred the poses of virtue.(...) Now I am silent; this is my mood." From Sundrun's Garden, Jack Vance.
"As the Greeks have created the Olympus based upon their own image and resemblance, we have created Gotham City and Metropolis and all these galaxies so similar to the corporate world, manipulative, ruthless and well paid, that conceived them." Braulio Tavares.

I’m afraid that becoming series would destroy Elric, as they usually start well and the end is a complete mess.

On the other hand, my favorite series, a production in my country, lasted only one season and if there was a movie, much of the stuff would be missing.
But I don’t think they would accept Elric to last only one season and if contracts are signed there are very few things you can do about it.

Since just one movie will not be enough, how about a trilogy? (Not that a trilogy would be enough but still it would be better than series)
Do it today!!! It may be illegal tomorrow!!!

Personally, I'm a not a big fan of HBO series. I think Showtime tells a better story for the most part.

In any case, I don't think Elric alone would translate well to a series. Elric is best used in small doses and trying to center an ongoing multi-season story around him would grow tired I fear. I would much rather see a Michael Moorcock's Multiverse or Eternal Champion series which would incorporate Elric appropriately. Let the story be told through a series of vignettes or serials about the Nomads and Jugadores and their struggles. This will give the writers more flexibility and freedom to tell the whole story while still letting us see some of our favorite moments play out on screen. Plus it will keep it from getting tired.
