I'm not trying to be a wet blanket...

I don't use MySpace. If you'll indulge me, I'll share with you what I find to be a very good reason to avoid that particular 'net entity.

I read the MySpace terms of service and found:

By displaying or publishing ("posting") any Content, messages, text, files, images, photos, video, sounds, profiles, works of authorship, or any other materials (collectively, "Content") on or through the Services, you hereby grant to MySpace.com, a non-exclusive, fully-paid and royalty-free, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense through unlimited levels of sublicensees) to use, copy, modify, adapt, translate, publicly perform, publicly display, store, reproduce, transmit, and distribute such Content...
FOX owns MySpace. They also own anything you've ever posted to MySpace (even after you take it down). Dead-Air, I hope you don't post the music of the DeadAir Fresheners or any custom mixes, etc. No one's talent should be stolen in this way, but this is FOX we're talking about.

It's important to note that other similar sites do not try to surreptitiously rip you off. The ToS for LiveJournal says:

LiveJournal claims no ownership or control over any Content posted by its users.
I'm not a shill for LiveJournal -- I don't use it, either -- but I wanted to make you guys aware of what MySpace is doing. I know you don't want to just hand your intellectual property over to a fat-cat like Rupert Murdoch.

I know, I know. PWV and his soapbox. But those of you who know me should expect this by now.

                      Carry on...

Thanks Veteran, I don't know it.
I use MyS only for contacting other friends in the world, so I was curious if there are other friends here to use it.

Yeah, I would just hate to see you give FOX the right to freely reproduce any of your paintings! I worry about artists being swindled and felt the need to get the word out there.

But, you know, now that I think about it, using MySpace without posting anything of actual "value" would be sort of like sticking it to Rupert Murdoch, so I say use MySpace to your heart's content, just don't post any original works.

O don't worry PV, I have no intention to put any my art's picts on MyS.
As I said before I use it to meet other people who have my same interests in arts, literature etc.
I have my site well close to me, in my arms. Unfortunately, as you rightly say, other people is "fucked" by the "rules" of this kind of "free" sites...

I've always been leery of posting any original work anywhere on the net, not just Myspace.
