  • People Over 35 Should be Dead!

People over 35 should be dead. Here's why.

According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids
in the 30's, 40's, 50's, or even maybe the early 70's probably shouldn't
have survived. Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based
paint. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets, ...
and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets. (Not to mention the risks we
    took hitchhiking.)
As children, we would ride in cars with no seatbelts or air bags. Riding in
the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat. We
drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

    Horrors!

We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but
we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. We shared
one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died
from this. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then
rode down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running
into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We would leave
home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the
street lights came on. No one was able to reach us all day.

    NO CELL PHONES!!!!!
    Unthinkable!

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, no video games, no 99
channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal cell phones,
personal computers, or Internet chat rooms.

    We had friends!

We went outside and found them.

We played dodge ball, and sometimes, the ball would really hurt. We fell out
of trees, got cut and broke bones and teeth, and there were no lawsuits from
    these accidents.

    They were accidents.

No one was to blame but us.

    Remember accidents?

We had fights and punched each other and got black and blue and learned to
get over it. We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms,
and although we were told it would happen, We did not put out very many
eyes, nor did the worms live inside us forever. We rode bikes or walked to a
friend's home and knocked on the door, or rang the bell or just walked in
    and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't
had to learn to deal with disappointment. Some students weren't as smart as
others, so they failed a grade and were held back to repeat the same grade.

    Horrors!

Tests were not adjusted for any reason. Our actions were our own.
Consequences were expected. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke
a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law.

    Imagine that!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem
solvers and inventors, ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of
innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and
responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

And you're one of them! (well some of you!!)

    Congratulations!

Please pass this on to others who have had the luck to grow up as kids,
before lawyers and government regulated our
lives, for our own good !!!!!

I'd like to see you go down to your nearest beach/park on a Saturday afternoon and tell the teenagers drinking cider from a plastic bottle that they're wimps... Go down to the skate park and tell everyone there what sissies they are for wearing helmets... Put your teeth where your mouth is (as it were). Have you seen the size of kids these days? They're huge... and they have chains on their belts!!! They scare the crap out of me, but then I didn't have the benefits of a 30's upbringing.

I'm 37 and these two gents make me look like a serious wussy. I wonder if our opinionated guest jumps motorcycles 50 feet in the air...

Sorry, but I watched Carothers win gold with his new move the "Body Burial" this weekend and well, the boy is NO wimp!

            |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Age and trust have no link at all.Had you been a student at a school shooting, would you trust the teen with the gun? He's young. And don't say I never picked on anyone so I have nothing to fear, many victims were random.Look to the women and girls around you.The majority of those raped, were not pulled into the bushes by some crazy thirty year old rapist. They were attacked by their horny teen boyfriend who just had to get some.People these young women trusted,to their regret.More crime is committed by people under thirty than over.In the beginning I stated age and trust have no link I was giving the benefit of doubt to the youth.

The prison system, inherently unjust and inhumane
is the ultimate expression of injustice and inhumanity
              in the society at large.

Those of us on the outside like to think of wardens
              and guards as our surrogates.
And they are intimately locked in a deadly embrace with
the inmates behind the prison walls.

              By extension, so are we.

A terrible double meaning is thus imparted
to the original question of human ethics.

              And I, my brother's keep.

Unfortunately, age is also in my bad knees. My mind is 23, my knees are 56, and the rest of my body is 35 :D

I know, I was simply quoting an old hippie saying as a throwaway joke. To generalize about any age group is ridiculous, and I apologize for being willfully obscure. Sorry if I annoyed you there.

That's Dee for ya, the quintessential Brit -- so polite he apologizes for using a well-known expression.

                        It's really annoying...

                        ...just teasing you, Dee! :P

Absolutely, the arrogance of youth, or youthful movements, that they'll remain forever young or that there is some inherent superiority in being young. Poo to them says this 27 year old. Anyone can be young, but it takes a certain amount of guts and smarts to grow old "gracefully"... or so I would imagine. I actually first read the thing in a sarcastic context, when Grace Slick wrote a Jefferson Airplane song mocking one of the band members for turning 30 (the song was Lather, I think).

But yes, it seems silly to spout these phrases and then watch them come back to bite you in the arse. How many rock fans are now regretting all of the nights they spent screaming "Hope I die before I get old"? Or the punks who screamed "No future"? The majority of both groups would have lived long enough to see their favourite bands reform and reunite several times over the years!

I write all of this as I consider the transition from wearing jeans and tee shirts to something a little more "grown up"... I never really got the hang of being young and wild, so I'm hoping to have a little more success pretending to be an adult. We'll see...
