  • Remembering Gallipoli -90 years on

Today (24th) is the 90th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings, that were so disasterous for the commonwealth troops in the first world war

The commonwealth counted their losses at 214,000 by the time they managed to withdraw, having acheived none of their objectives.

The defending Turks lost around 300,000.

It was amazing to see the joint ceremony on the news with all the Turkish and NZ/AUS/UK pagentry, and I was very touched by the tribute to commonwealth soldiers killed at Gallipoli they read out at the memorial ceremony written by Ataturk, founder of modern Turkey in 1934.
