It is amazing what social networking can do. Since I posted this stuff yesterday thousands of calls flooded the Alberta SPCA, and had them off for a visit to the zoo. Unfortunately not much has come of it so far, but here's and article where the owner of Guzoo sure lets us know what he's all about:

Animals, they don't have strange intellectual needs. They have reasonable needs for physical space, food, drink, and not to be in pain. I believe if you're going to take on an animal as a responsibility you really have to put in for their basic needs, and... I can't condone abuse.

Didn't think it was within my geography to sign, but certainly agree. Other than a small amount of organic meat (or more importantly, open-environment reared animal produce) I've almost become veggie because of the lack of ethical husbandry in the mass-produced food industry.
