  • Enclave Story Challenge (2011) Rules

Following on from discussions in this thread, the rules of the Enclave Story Challenge 2011:
    1. Challenge Start date = 1st July 2011; a special forum has been created for posting entries in (on same basis as previous years - i.e. no posting in other people's threads)
    2. Challenge End Date = end of 30th Sept 2011 (your local time)
    3. Participants may pick one of two themes for the Challenge:
      1. The Ship that Sails Between the Worlds - aka 'The Dark Ship' from The Sailor on the Seas of Fate
      2. Legends from the Beginning of Time - "Minutes, annotations and footnotes of the Guild of Temporal Adventures"

    4. Copyright rules: All entries must be original; no use of Mike's Intellectual Property (IP) bar the Ship (and its crew, as necessary) & the Guild of Temp. Advs. (as an organisation) is permitted.
      1. Oblique references to existing Temporal Advs. are permitted
      2. Entries remain the property of the author except those aspects deriving from Mike's IP. Assume Mike's IP is used without permission.
      3. All entrants agree that no attempt is made to supersede or override Mike's copyright in his IP.

    5. Entries may be prose, verse, or pictorial; pictorial entries can be presented as thumbnail attachments with posts or uploaded to the Image Hive and then 'hot-linked'. (Please notify the Image Hive managers if uploading images to the Limbo gallery so a album can be created for you).
      1. Alternatively you may host images on a 3rd-party servers, i.e. Flickr, Photobucket, etc. but any bandwidth restrictions are at your own risk.

    6. Length of entries:
      1. Prose = 10,000 words
      2. Verse = 'start at the beginning and keep going until you reach the end, then stop'
      3. Pictorial = max. 24 pages (assume standard 'US comicbook' format)

    7. Frequency of entries: you may post weekly or fortnightly or as and when you have something to post. Alternatively you may wait until final week/day/hour to post your complete entry.
    8. You may enter one story into the Challenge at any time prior to the Challenge End Date. Prior notice of participation is not required but is appreciated. You may delete and re-start and/or edit/revise your entry at any time prior to the Challenge End Date. No changes or revisions will be permitted after the Challenge End Date (your local time).
    9. There is no guarantee of any prizes for entering the Challenge; after the End Date a poll may (or may not) be posted to allow people to choose their favourite; the organisers may (or may not) investigate the possibility of collecting all entries in a POD or e-book. Nothing is guaranteed.

_"For an eternity Allard was alone in an icy limbo where all the colours were bright and sharp and comfortless.
_For another eternity Allard swam through seas without end, all green and cool and deep, where distorted creatures drifted, sometimes attacking him.
_And then, at last, he had reached the real world – the world he had created, where he was God and could create or destroy whatever he wished.
_He was supremely powerful. He told planets to destroy themselves, and they did. He created suns. Beautiful women flocked to be his. Of all men, he was the mightiest. Of all gods, he was the greatest."
