    The Spanish Main

Has anyone else seen the film The Spanish Main? It was on TV yesterday afternoon and I was struck by how superficially the plot of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' mirrors this one.

There is the beautiful girl captured by and falling in love with a renowned pirate captain. Of course, she is betrothed to someone ashore (a viceroy in this case.) References to 'The Brotherhood' ('Pirate's Code'?) And the obligatory double-cross (or five) by a one-time comrade. Not exactly Errol Flynn but enjoyable nonetheless, probably for all the wrong reasons.

Maureen O'Hara looked attractively moody throughout, and much more shapely in the lead female role than Ms Knightley.
