  • God-Bashers - the Album. 20 All-Time Atheistic Greats.

OK, we've had country and western hymns of praise,
    We've had Cliff Richard and his virginal ways;
Van Morrison, the Osmonds, Dylan (for a while) -
They all spread their message with a beatific smile.
It's time to get our own back, it's time to hit the streets
With the very best in sceptical and agnostic beats: :D

    1. Public Image Limited: Religion (from first album)
    2. Roy Harper: If (from "Once")
    3. Frank Zappa: Dumb All Over (a Little Ugly on the Side) (from "You Are What You Is")
    4. Dead Kennedys: I Kill Children (from "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables")
    5. Randy Newman: God's Song (That's Why I love Mankind)

... only 15 to go (Roy Harper's got a few more but let's spread the load), all contributions gratefully received.

"Jesus Christ - Come on Down!"
    \"Killing me won\'t bring back your apples!\"

    6. Jello Biafra and Mojo Nixon: Plastic Jesus (from 'Prairie Home Invasion')
    7. Iron Maiden: Holy Smoke (from 'No Prayer For The Dying')
    8. Nirvana: Jesus Doesn't Want Me For a Sunbeam (from 'MTV Unplugged in New York')

The Police - Oh My God ("How can I turn the other cheek? It's black and bruised and torn.")

Concrete Blond - God Is A Bullet ("I've got a badge and gun and I've joined the P.D.")

XTC - Dear God ("The hurt I see helps to compound, that the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, Is just somebody's unholy hoax,")

Wesley Willis - Girls On Film ("Take me up like a shooting star!")
The cat spread its wings and flew high into the air, hovering to keep pace with them as they moved cautiously toward the city. Then, as they climbed over the rubble of what had once been a gateway and began to make their way through piles of weed-grown masonry, the cat flew to the squat building with the yellow dome upon its roof. It flew twice around the dome and then came back to settle on Jhary's shoulder. - The King of the Swords

I know this is off-topic, but never before have I met another Concrete Blond fan, and now I join this forum and they're being mentioned all over the place! I'm glad to see I'm not alone in this. Bless you all!

I've listened for years. I must point out that I got onto the band wagon round about the Anne Rice phase of my life. They weren't all that popular in L.A. until that album. BLOODLETTING is such a beautiful piece of work. I am from L.A. and if L.A.'s music scene is all local stuff and big time Hollywood, then this band qualifies as an obscure L.A. band that hit the shelf. A very unusual suite of rock and vocals. She is so breathy. Her voice is the voice of the sexually fantastic LA that I have always known and loved. When I listen to Concrete Blond, I miss L.A. mightily.

Coolness. I first heard them on the 'Pump Up the Volume' soundtrack, doing a cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Everybody Knows', which was pure genius... I don't really remember when that was, but it's still a great soundtrack.

Bad Religion:"Evangelistic nazis, you cannot frighten me!"

I was going to mention the Concrete Blonde songs. Darn.

Iron Maiden: "Hallowed Be Thy Name" ("If there's a God, why has he let me die?")

                        Genesis: "Jesus He Knows Me"

AC/DC: "Highway To Hell"; "Hells Bells"
(Many of their titles - Rock n Roll Damnation, Hell Ain't a Bad Place To Be - sound worse than they are; they are almost all about women)

                        Black Sabbath: "N.I.B."

Mr. Bungle - Merry Go Bye-bye

They're shining searchlights in the sky
'Cause there's a new God in the sign
It says their map is not their terrier work
And then I broke my telescope
But that's the nature of the game
                            And you have to play

Bring back the pain of a god that's never blue
You're in control of the whole damned universe
Bring back the shame and the bright lights on a few
It keeps me coming back to you

The deaths were faked, the laughs were cries
                            But ressurrections are doing fine
You got me walking into suicide
And I'll be there right by your side
In reproduction at your merry go bye bye

                            Here to paradise they go
                            Brighter made is their woe
                            As above, so below

We reached for an outside point of view
But its out of touch with me and you
I feel I'm walking into suicide
But you'll be right there by my side
To beam my message into space as I die

Bring back the shame of the many for the few
Get on your knees and I'll be coming back to you
Bring back the pain of an inverse world for two
It keeps me coming back to you

                              Try this one:
Faith no More (they should have one on this for the band name alone)
                              STAR A.D

                              Star A.D.
                              See tomorrow dreamin'
                              You don't need your freedom
                              Star A.D.
                              A little joke that's understood
                              All over the world
                              A little joke that's understood
It's all over and over and over and over
                              And dying is dry-
                              Like a fact of history
And when you die, you'll become
                              something worse
                              Than dead-
                              You'll become
                              A legend
                              We are forever
