The ".1" is to acknowledge the reformation of this community. I accidentally posted this as a "Story" before figuring out that indeed the old board is really still here in tact So if any Chaos Engineers are inclined to delete that, have at it. A board thread is by far my preference.

I love my time slot so much! I don't even have to miss my radio show, and can still make it up to Seattle in time for load in at the Lo Fi for the Dead Air Fresheners gig opening for Orbit Service and with Bill Horist and the Laundry Room Squelchers! You can check out details on the show here: http://www.myspace.com/deadairfresheners I know there are a couple MMMers with Seattle as their home base, and even if you don't get into our stuff, I'm betting the Roger Water's influenced dark psych of Orbit Service will be a sure hit.

Good thing too, as I have another pair of tickets to give away to the Portland Nurse With Wound/Orbit Service/Green Milk from the Planet Orange gig on Tuesday 6/20! Listen to the show and call (503) 725-5945 to claim them.

Meanwhile, I've got a brand new track full of necrophilia and tasteful casio bombast by Olympia's ultra-eccentric Big Tom the Lithuanian (former sometime member of Behold the Profit No Lord Shall Live among other things), as well as topical tracks from Bill Horist, Orbit Service, and Nurse With Wound, and further audio candy from the likes of Oliver Squash, Brunnen, Sonic Youth, and the Legendary Pink Dots. Hell, I might even play a little bit of Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, just because it's so fucking beautiful!

this Saturday, 6/24/2005 from Noon to 1 PM Pacific Time
(that's 10 PM in Istanbul Turkey!)

Another week with an amazing array of way out there music to unleash, from as far away as Turkey where experimental noise artists Analog Suicide and Daruin both reside (I'm the proud owner of a brand new [to me] split CDR which just arrived in the mail from Istanbul from them!)

Meanwhile from across the U.S., Bristol Connecticut's ultra independent Icky Recordings has a new compilation I'll be sampling called Reek of Influence, featuring the likes of Interstellar Doom, the Noisettes, and The Family Snar-Snar Orchestra. It's a whole lot of droney, noisy, ambient weirdness from all over the map in terms of both music and geography.

I also picked up the latest issue of the Wire complete with Wiretapper #15, which is surprisingly obscure in content even for them. Stand tracks from Mekon (former Psychic TV member), Gricer, and the Netherlands' Machinefabriek, but really it's all great of course. I'll get at least a couple on.

Of course there's a new Sonic Youth album, and for all I keep hearing about how "mainstream" it is, I still think it's a great SY album which fits better on this radio show than over at the, er, "commercial alternative" stations...

          Sonic Youth
is playing in Portland Saturday night, so
I'll hit a track of the new Rather Ripped, plus a
classic Peel Session recording of them doing a Fall
cover, and another surprise I wont' reveal at this
          time...

Plus more tracks off of the Icky Recordings Reek of
          Influence
compilation, and Wiretapper 15 that I
couldn't get to last week, some new Mission of Burma
and a whole lot more eclectic strangeness.

I have a Special Live Guest on What's This Called?
with Ricardo Wang this coming Saturday 8/5/2006 from
Noon to 1 PM Pacific time on KPSU!

Joining me in the studio to perform live and play some
tracks from their new album Things Past on Beta-Lactam
Records is Denver, Colorado's George & Caplin.

STREAMING AUDIO AS ALWAYS IS HERE: http://www.kpsu.org
and those in the Portland OR/Vancouver WA metro area can listen on the old fashioned radio at 1450 AM or for the lucky few on PSU's campus 98.3 FM.

While George & Caplin are in fact a duo, oddly, neither of them is named either George or Caplin. They perform lush electronic experimental pop music, which is hauntingly melodic and atmospheric. Their music walks the line between the more ambient side of new wave ala Gary Numan, the more organic side of glitch-electronics along the lines of Boards of Canada, and the spacy rock experimentalism of the likes of the Legendary Pink Dots. Which is not to say that they sound exactly like anyone other than themselves, but merely to provide a framework for this vocal electro drone merger.

The will also be playing later that night here in Portland at the Someday Lounge ::: 125 NW 5th Ave ::: 21+ ::: 9pm
