The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is The Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

          1. One film that changed your life
Star Wars - not that it made me a Star Wars nutter (well, it did but I outgrew that phase) but rather it opened my eyes (and mind!) to what it was possible for film as a medium to do. As such it's the seed that grew into my abiding love for cinema as an art form (see below).

          2. One film you have watched more than once
Where Eagles Dare - another formative childhood experience that - unlike Star Wars - I never grew out of.

          3. One film you would want on a desert island
Citizen Kane - the greatest movie ever made, so why would you need anything else?

          4. One film that made you laugh
          M. Hulot's Holiday - much funnier than I expected it to be.

          5. One film that made you cry
Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy - or if I can only pick one of the three then The Return of the King. I blubbed like a baby.

          6. One film you wish had been made
The Magnificent Ambersons - which more strictly speaking is one film I wish had been released as the director intended and not slashed and mutilated by the Studio.

          7. One film you wish had never had been made
Star Wars - largely responsible for the infantilisation of Hollywood in the '70s and '80s.

          8. The last film you saw
It would have been The Golden Compass if I hadn't watched Viva Knievel! on TV last night.

          9. One film you have been meaning to see
          Would have been
The Golden Compass if I hadn't seen it yesterday with my daughter, so I'll say Pan's Labyrinth, which has been sitting unwatched on my DVD shelf for the past month.

_"For an eternity Allard was alone in an icy limbo where all the colours were bright and sharp and comfortless.
_For another eternity Allard swam through seas without end, all green and cool and deep, where distorted creatures drifted, sometimes attacking him.
_And then, at last, he had reached the real world – the world he had created, where he was God and could create or destroy whatever he wished.
_He was supremely powerful. He told planets to destroy themselves, and they did. He created suns. Beautiful women flocked to be his. Of all men, he was the mightiest. Of all gods, he was the greatest."

            1. A film that changed your life
Tombstone. How so? Well, near every third word I ever say is a lift from this movie, done in a suitably poor rendition of a southern drawl.

            2. One film you have watched more than once
Airplane. Still funny, no matter how often you see it.

            3. One film you would want on a desert island
Brazil. Long runtime and eminently re-watchable.

            4. One film that made you laugh
This is Spinal Tap. Who says a comedy can't be the best film ever?

            5. One film that made you cry
            Rings of Bright Water. Howled.

            6. One film you wish had been made
            Elric...?

            7. One film you wish had never had been made
License to Drive. You haven't seen it. Pray you never will.

            8. The last film you saw
Casino Royal. Best Bond in ages.

            9. One film you have been meaning to see
Napolean Dynamite. Have the DVD. Don't have the time to watch it.

              1. One film that changed your life
Beneath the Planet of the Apes (I watched it when I was very young, like six, on t.v. and the ending was one of the most horrifically shocking things I've ever experienced because I'd never thought of that concept before then.)

              2. One film you have watched more than once
The Man Who Fell to Earth (and I'd watch it again right now if it were handy; it's brilliant!)

              3. One film you would want on a desert island
              La Dolce Vita

              4. One film that made you laugh
              Leprechaun in the Hood

              5. One film that made you cry
              Midnight Cowboy

              6. One film you wish had been made
An adaptation of Now Wait for Last Year by PKD with a good director, say Richard Linkletter, but not animation.

              7. One film you wish had never had been made
              Independence Day

              8. The last film you saw
Eraser Head (with my pregnant wife; not a good plan despite her being a huge Lynch fan)

              9. One film you have been meaning to see
The Birds (it's in our Netflix queue!)

                2. One film you have watched more than once
John Carpenter's "The Thing". To my mind the greatest science fiction horror movie ever made

                3. One film you would want on a desert island
Theodore Roszak wrote a hugely entertaining novel enitled "Flicker" being a secret history of film. Read the endo fthe book to find what I would want to do on a desert island....

                5. One film that made you cry
"The Lives of Others" - majestic and redemptive. A film of immense humanity.

                6. One film you wish had been made
Sergio Leone's film of the seige of Leningrad. Though Guissepe Tornatore's "Leningrad" might cut the mustard

                7. One film you wish had never had been made
"Blues Brothers 2000" - What were they thinking????

                8. The last film you saw

                9. One film you have been meaning to see
                Alain Resnais' "Hiroshima Mon Amour"

                    1. One film that changed your life
Star Wars. Like David, I outgrew it. I was 8.

                    2. One film you have watched more than once
The Outlaw Josey Wales. I could watch it again tomorrow.

                    3. One film you would want on a desert island
Do I have a DVD player and television?

                    4. One film that made you laugh
Knocked up. Silly can be smart.

                    5. One film that made you cry
                    Pan's Labyrinth. Oh my...

                    6. One film you wish had been made
The Land of Laughs. An amazing book. Jonathan Carroll sold the rights outright, and the owner cannot make it.

                    7. One film you wish had never had been made
The Godfather part 3. Back to the well one too many times.

                    8. The last film you saw
Slightly embarrassingly, The Breakfast Club. Good for nostalgia. No Country for Old Men was the last I saw at a theater. Absolutely amazing.

                    9. One film you have been meaning to see
Citizen Kane. I feel like there is a huge gap in my cultural experience.

A Clockwork Orange. Even played in a band called Ludovico's Technique form almost six years.
                          3. one film you would want on a deserted island-
Pink Floyd's The Wall. Great movie and you get music too!

Seems like it will be fun to try to reinvigorate this sticky thread.

                            1. One film that changed your life
                            • Amadeus - Don't really know why but something in that movie uncorked a creative streak in me that hasn't slowed since. Must have been the music.

                            2. One film you have watched more than once
                            • A very, very great many in this category, so most recently: House of Flying Daggers. An incredibly beautiful production on many levels with a great story and some superb acting.

                            3. One film you would want on a desert island
                            • How To Build A Boat

                            4. One film that made you laugh
                            • Blazing Saddles. Also in the watched-more-than-once category. Just brilliant comedy of the kind not seen since Aristophanes staged his plays. When Mel Brooks gets it right, it's a masterpiece.

                            5. One film that made you cry
                            • House of Flying Daggers

                            6. One film you wish had been made
                            • Mercedes Lackey's The Last Herald Mage trilogy. I would say an Elric book but I'm not sure it's ready to be made quite yet.

                            • Jumper. Terribly disappointing to see what those two did with essentially unlimited abilities but some interesting CGI work I'd not seen before.

                            9. One film you have been meaning to see
                            • John Woo's Red Cliff. It's not really out in the US yet but I am looking forward to it.
