I will be doing what I'm told will be major events in London and Cambridge for The Vengeance of Rome in the week beginning January 15th 2006. I am trying to get some sort of event for Manchester, too, but so far nothing has been arranged. I'll be appearing on Andrew Marr's 'Start the Week' on Monday 16th. I'll do my best to announce any other events or appearances as soon as I know about them. I'll only be in the UK for that week, unfortunately, and any signings will not, as far as I know, be done at bookshops, but larger venues. I look forward to seeing some of you there! Ooh, that's exciting news. Perhaps, when we know the dates of the signings maybe some of us can try to arrange a Miscellany-related 'meet-up' either before or afterwards? Also maybe grab some photos for the Image Gallery?
For non-UK listeners, 'Start the Week' is available online for seven days after transmission from www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/starttheweek.shtml so you can listen in afterwards._"For an eternity Allard was alone in an icy limbo where all the colours were bright and sharp and comfortless.
_For another eternity Allard swam through seas without end, all green and cool and deep, where distorted creatures drifted, sometimes attacking him.
_And then, at last, he had reached the real world – the world he had created, where he was God and could create or destroy whatever he wished.
_He was supremely powerful. He told planets to destroy themselves, and they did. He created suns. Beautiful women flocked to be his. Of all men, he was the mightiest. Of all gods, he was the greatest."

Unfortunately, the Pyat books haven't yet sold in the US, so there will be no similar events in America, at least until someone takes the books. As some people already know, my literary books aren't always available in the US.
I'll only be in the UK for a few days and will be entirely in the hands of Cape and their publicist, so can't even make dates with relatives until I know what's going on! Cape are paying for all this, so they have the right to my time first!Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

Good news, indeed.
Dee and Christian are very welcome to shack up at Chateau Perdix if they wish to attend the London event. Then we can turn up looking shifty and surreptitiously pass Mike caches of Swiss Rolls, French Cat Food and Baked Beans in between signings.
Ok, maybe not the beans.

We're a bit overstocked on beans at the moment. Linda went nuts ordering from an import store and now we have to carry an awful lot of tins back to Texas... :) It's steak and kidney pies which are in short supply, because the Americans won't allow their import. Doubtless because they fear the consequences of having not told the people about this delicacy. Realising how they've been deprived of the delicious pie, as well as a decent health service, the American people would almost certainly take to the streets screaming No Taxation Without Fray Bentos and similar slogans.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

Steak and kidney. I doubt if there's just a kidney pie. Too expensive, for one thing. Americans seem to have lost their taste for offal in most States, which is a pity. In fact it's sometimes a wonder to me that Americans of my acquaintance will turn their noses up at 'organ meats' and yet seem perfectly happy eating some chemical cocktail which is barely food at all. The only thing still alive and well in American country restaurants is liver, which can often be very good. And I've praised the virtues of New England fish and chips in these pages before...
The French, of course, can do sublime things with almost every part of the beast and in some cities, at least, have restaurants entirely dedicated to offal.
UK pies, by the way, always have a crust on top and I'd say there are at least as many savory pies as there are sweet. I will say this, too -- the Brits are incapable, in my experience, of baking a decent pecan pie.
But then the best pecan pies are, again in my experience, always baked South of the M-D... Um, where were we ?
I haven't any details of the events as yet, but it's possible Cape will be advertising them on their website, which I would guess can be accessed from the general Random House site.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

Any TV appearances lined up Mike? I'd have thought BBC's The Culture Show would be a good platform for the Pyat books.'You know, I can't keep up with you. If I hadn't met you in person, I quite honestly would NOT believe you really existed. I just COULDN'T. You do so MUCH... if half of what goes into your zines is to be believed, you've read more at the age of 17 than I have at the age of 32 - LOTS more'

Very interesting. :)
I'm sorry I went off topic, hehe. I knew a guy who ate tripe and my dad really enjoyed liver and onions, I like liver too, but for the offal, I never got into it. I need to expand my horizons. :D
I'm looking forward to The Vengeance of Rome.
I love Silverheart so far! I am going to have more time to read it next week. I am so happy to have been able to get a copy. ;)

One of the few things which could tempt me away from vegetarianism (aside from the burgers in Pulp Fiction) would be a Fray Bentos steak and kidney pudding. Yum. Suddenly my rice cakes don't seem so appealing. :(
Perdix: Very kind offer. I was thinking more of a "dash in, say something stupid, sulk, then dash back to Waterloo" sort of affair, but I'll give it some thought.
Being a humble chap, if I can get to a signing, I'm only planning to take a single other book with me... but which one... hmmm..."That which does not kill us, makes us stranger." - Trevor Goodchild
