My first question (after searching the FAQs and reading the rules) is there any origin story of Stormbringer? I was watching a history channel episode about samurai swordmaking, with stories how the master swordsmith's would meditate for a year under a waterfall before forging a sword, and thought of the origin of Stormbringer and Mournblade.
Have there been any accounts of how demon/sword were folded together? Perhaps some treachery from an ancient Melnibonean emperor. Black Carbon was folded into steel by ancient swordsmiths to strengthen the blade, and I thought it would be great to read an account of how the Black Demon essense had been folded into a sword, perhaps at first as a flattery, but in fact, as a cruel Melnibonean trick or trap?
Perhaps the iron itself had been harvested by theft from some black-stone reveered by some lost religion. This could fulfill the need for a blasphemy as part of the ritual of forge-welding the demon to rune-blade? Perhaps the demon was seduced by the Melniboneans, or the demon beguiled the Melniboneans himself? Or some past emperor had to agree to a curse upon his race's future in order to bind the soul-stealer to the black iron?
To even explore the question becomes a task both epic and mythological, knowing the nature of the Black Sword across the multiverse, and in this spirit, I can image that Mr. Moorcock has considered the tale at least.
Regards,
William
