  • A Corum Movie

I dont have much time to discuss this myself at the moment, but I wanted to start a thread to hear from and gauge people's support for the two Corum trilogies to be made into movies.
I am of course extremely pleased that Elric is making progress towards the big screen, but I hope that Corum could be considered very soon after.

I love the story arch also my friend but, truth be told, I highly do not think you'll be seein anything regarding the Corum story coming anytime soon-if ever-.
With the Elric movie, maybe on the way,I just don't see Mr. Moorcock looking at a Corum movie in the mix anytime soon.
    Sorry, but just my opinion.

As discussed elsewhere, Vin Diesel has said how much he likes Corum. It would be great if he wanted to make a Corum movie, if, for instance, his Chronicles of Riddick is a success. He seems a very nice guy and, as I've said, I thought he was great as Riddick in Pitch Black.

well i assume the other incarnations will have a mention in the Elric movie as well, just to portrait the nature of the eternal champion??

so maybe an extra movie for every champion "unnecessary", or rather nor realistic from the business point of view?

Oh... I think you can assume that I would be somewhat saddened if the Corum trilogies were never made into films - and indeed within all our lifetimes...

(Spoken using the voice of John Hurt as the Marquis of Montrose in Rob Roy).

Great movie, Rob Roy. Great script, too. So much better all round that Mr Gibson's barmy Braveheart. Which seemed to swamp it when they both came out around the same time. Did anyone else notice most of the script actually stuck to Scots (rather than the usual mess of tartanned up English) except where Montrose and the other baddies
spoke (as in most American movies, however, the more English the accent the more evil the character... Apart from Hugh Grant, of course).

As I was speculating under the Elric Movie thread,
I'm guessing that Corum will be in the first Elric movie,
because I predict that the battle with Agak and Gagak
(Sailor on the Seas of Fate) will be in that movie.
Corum-- if my memory serves me correctly-- along with
Erekose, and Hawkmoon join Elric to battle the alien threat.
Thus, we may all get a taste of Corum on the silver screen
              sooner than we thought!
If we all hope Vin Diesel will be in a Corum movie, perhaps
he should play Corum in the Elric movie.
              makes sense to me!!

It is also possible that in our lifetimes, the earth will pass
through the tail of a comet whose stardust will magically
transport us to the not-so-distant future where there will have
been 9 Eternal Champion movies already made-- two of which
I directed and starred in! WOO HOO!!!!

I wonder which of the above is more likely?
(you thought you were barmy, Michael!)
              cheers!

So the Elric movie is going to be produced by the Weitz brothers,
                makers of American Pie?
                "Hmmmm...."
Well, The Exorcist, which is one of the best horror stories ever,
was written by William Peter Blatty, who I read had
                previously written comedies.
So I guess Weitzes doing Elric can be a success.

                So Michael,
how is it the Weitz Bros. became interested in Elric?
Are they big fans as we all are (we who frequent this site)?

Yes, I agree Rob Roy was outstanding historical drama and well done to all who were involved in producing it. I enjoyed the part when the Duke of Argule, Andrew Keir, confronted Montrose whilst he was socialising with friends and accused montrose of speaking against him. John Hurt played his anger so well as he spoke out at being humiliated by another member of the aristocracy in front of commoners. Typical historical class snobery!

I enjoyed Gladiator in a similar way, heroic, historical based drama. I always enjoy seeing Oliver Reed, the drunken sod, he ended his career well in that movie. Commodus played by Joaquin Phoenix was as vile as Cunningham, John Roth. I believe Yrkoon will play the equivalent role in Eric of Marylebone?

Jerico, yes I agree Corum will likely get a cameo in the first or second Elric movie. Mike, do you think he will look the Corum picture I have borrowed for my avatar? It is one of teh best illustrations of Corum that I have seen so far.

                  Goodnight!

                        Of Comedies and Serial Killers...

There was a serial killer here in California
who called himself The Zodiac, who was
never caught. He sent letters to the police,
mocking and toying with them. If I'm not
                        mistaken
it we he who also referred to The Exorcist
as a comedy in one of his letters.
                        hmmmm....

The Zodiac killer was by far the most
                        intelligent serial killer.

Hey I wonder if I have anything else in common! I dont think that there is much chance that I could kill another human being though, not even in war.

There has been discussion about the role of Arioch in the Elric novels, but I happen to think he has a pretty good role in the Knight of the Swords, both as a giant slovenly creature abusing his Mabden servants and as an extremely intelligent and wise youth.

I thought Malcom Mcdowell could play one of the parts in the Elric movie, maybe even Moonglum? He seems to be able to portray an interesting blend of good and bad in his characters.

                              8) 8) THe acter would have to either lack a hand or wear a hook and eyepatch for lots of time and they would have to tone down the violence. It would put people off wagons and pokers and heated knives for life. Pros They could get lots of hunks in and beautiful ladies.I couldnt bear the word butchers block and wildman of the woods for ages. And trees I see in different light, after that. But i did learn the word, VIRIDIANN. It bugged me to know what it meant. It would put people off chariots too and torture. But if that acter can have his arm tied down for ever in ER then anythign can happen(The docter who got his left arm slashed off by a helicopter blade, sewn back on and now has lost it again in the new series)Unless hes really got 1 arm .
