  • Johnny Winter, 1944-2014

Blues musician and producer Johnny Winter has died at the age of 70.

Mike (co)dedicated The Revenge of the Rose to Johnny and his brother Edgar.
_"For an eternity Allard was alone in an icy limbo where all the colours were bright and sharp and comfortless.
_For another eternity Allard swam through seas without end, all green and cool and deep, where distorted creatures drifted, sometimes attacking him.
_And then, at last, he had reached the real world – the world he had created, where he was God and could create or destroy whatever he wished.
_He was supremely powerful. He told planets to destroy themselves, and they did. He created suns. Beautiful women flocked to be his. Of all men, he was the mightiest. Of all gods, he was the greatest."

Just heard the news. Very sad indeed. Hubby and I were fortunate enough to see him in concert two years ago - it was a small venue, and we were just 10 feet away from him. The band was great and Johnny was great. He will certainly be missed...and I can't help but feel this is the beginning of the end of traditional blues.

Very sad news, one of the best blues players. RIP.

          Dear all,

Only last week, I was playing Johnny Winter's complete set from Woodstock 1969, alongside his eponymous (2nd) album. Stand-out tracks on both.

          Much missed...

          Best,

          John.

Here's a photo I just found in my flip phone (yes, I still have a flip phone) from Johnny's performance back in May of 2012, in Cape May, NJ. Excellent performance!
