  • Christopher Samuel Youd (1922-2012)

From Phil Stephenson-Payne on fictionmags yesterday:

I am sorry to have to advise the group that Sam Youd (aka John Christopher) died at ten o'clock last night in a nursing home in Bath. He had been suffering from bladder cancer and associated problems but apparently was peaceful at the end.

Let's all raise a glass at the White Hart in his memory.

    Regards,
    Phil S-P

    ********************************

A much underrated writer, and with his death and that of John Burke a few months ago 1930s UK fandom pretty much passes from living memory.

    RIP, Sam.

That's very sad news. I re-read The Death of Grass again a few months ago and really enjoyed it.

Condolences to his family and friends.

I was very sorry to hear of Sam's passing, I read the tripod books when I was 11/12 and loved them. I also read The Death of Grass the other month, The Possessors and Wrinkle in the Skin were other great books by Sam. He will be very sadly missed.
