Welcome to Moorcock's Miscellany
Dear reader,
Many people have given their valuable time to create a website for the pleasure of posing questions to Michael Moorcock, meeting people from around the world, and mining the site for information. Please follow one of the links above to learn more about the site.
I enjoy Wagner, though I must admit I've occasionally not been able to make it through Gotterdamerung and have failed to return after the supper break they usually give. Sometimes I prefer him on disc to stage.
My sentiments exactly. I loaned a video of Tristan and Isolde, and i didn't like it at enough as an opera, same with the other operas i should think.
Too much time to be having to sit through an entire opera like Gأ¶tterdأ¤mmerung (16hrs).. Wagner needed an editor if u ask me. But i'm afraid his ego wouldn't have enjoyed that. In short i love the musik, but dislike the operas.. But they have some cool props on stage though :).
But i think 'Flight Of The Valkyries' has always had too much attention concerning his works. Maybe because it's short and dynamic i guess..
And what happened in germany 50 years after his death was a tragedy for german culture. And it seems to still be clinging on to germans wherever they go (as other people view them), as i've heard friends tell me from German Metal groups at least. And they sometime have a hard time always having to explain it all to other people.
Ah, you should try to get Istvأ،n Szabأ³'s (Hungary) "Meeting Venus" (1991) with Glen Close on tape or DVD if available. Magnificent and opens a totally different window on Wagner (couldn't stand him before that).
Got Szabأ³ several European film awards that year.
