Might have computer silence for a while if predicted ice storms take out our electricity as is almost bound to happen. Apologies, then, to anyone trying to contact me!

The storm is over here, and I only had to reset every electronic device in the house 5 times. I drove 1 hour to work yesterday am only to discover that the site was closed down due to the ice storm. With my luck, I blew a brakeline on the way home and had to drive for an hour on ice covered roads completely brakeless...Never a dull moment.
My VW was an Ice Schooner..

Hope you're all OK over there, the BBC news has reported that you are experiencing temperatures of 2 Celcius! What's that in Farenheit, about minus 27 degrees? Take care you North American continentals! He's well smoked

We have daffodils in flower on Merseyside. I have a tomato plant which is growing from seed in my front garden and flowered just before christmas. I saw a butterfly flying past my window between xmas and the new year, and my daughter reports a birds nest with new chicks, in the building in which she lives. Is this the start of the conjunction of the million spheres, or have the weather patterns just gone belly up?He's well smoked

WE have had snow and wind storms in downtown vancouver this winter which we dont have very often here. El Nino was held responsible and it also meant no hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico this year, thankfully for those living there. Stanley park has been decimated, 100 year old Pines, 3ft in diameter, smashed like match sticks.Last edited by Tales from Tanelorn; 01-16-2007, 01:40 PM.

We got through the night but the ice is now looking bad on trees and overhead lines. Strange stuff, that wind-borne ice -- not snow, not sleet. We're trying to keep bird bath unfrozen, at least during the day, but we're well below zero at present (2.20pm). Probably will lose power at some point. The local guys are usually pretty good, but I don't envy their job at the moment.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

Well today here in Canberra (Australia) we are due to have our 8th day in a row of 34c plus days (that's 93 degrees fahrenheit for you imperial types). Last night it got down to about 20c/68f.
Luckily, we aren't getting the smoke from the bushfires in Victoria at the moment. They're due to have another 38c/100f day down there today especially for the tennis. They may be subject to brown outs as well cos the fires have cut one of the main electricity transmission pths from the NSW Snowy (ha! a misnomer if ever there was one! It snowed in December but not during winter....) hydro.
The drought continues - we are looking forward to a week of rain as well... 40% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, but they are more likely to cause harm than good by lightning starting fires rather than delivering rain. We had a downpour on New Year's eve but it wasn't good soaking rain like we need.
Hasn't the weather been strange lately....Does it follow that I reject all authority? Perish the thought. In the matter of boots, I defer to the authority of the boot-maker.

Well, we usually get unusual heat here, so it's a nice change to worry about ice and snow. Not as bad as in 1937 when the Austin area had around 5" of snow. I believe in global warming, but I'm not sure this is evidence of it!Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:
