Would like to recommend this movie which I suspect will not get massive distribution. Alan Rickman (one of my all time favourite actors since the days we used to see him in Shakespeare in Stratford and who remains the best in the role he created in Dangerous Liasons) and Sigourney Weaver. He plays a haunted Englishman en route to Winnipeg, Canada. She plays a high achieving autistic woman. Beautiful story, beautifully acted. Snow Cake. See it, if you get the chance.

Mike,
Thanks for the recommendation! I like Alan Rickman as well, although I never saw him in a play. I liked all the movies that he was in. It sounds like the movie has a great cast.
I will have to check it out sometime, it sounds interesting.

Thank you Mike.
Coming from a man of your taste,... I will definitely watch Snowcake.
A movie in Winnipeg called Snowcake would have to be filmed in between the months of Dec. and Apr. in order to live up to its namesake. ( It snowed here yesterday )
Perhaps there'll be a sequel from the months of May to Nov.
As for a title errrr...Rainmuffin?Last edited by voilodian ghagnasdiak; 10-22-2006, 07:17 AM.

Must say I'm also looking forward to seeing The Prestige, based on the Priest novel. Looks very tasty. We were going tonight, but our nearest Alamo Draft House was sold out.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

We're about to leave now! Hope we can get in today. I'll tell you what I think of it when I get back! I haven't seen any reviews but the friends I'm going with say they've been 'mixed'. Probably shouldn't get my hopes up too high, but it's a great cast and a good director.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

Thanks. Great cast. Iffy script, though. Full of anachronistic language ('breakthrough', for instance, in 1897). I have to assume the book was a lot better. Probably good not to have read the book before seeing the movie, however. Just a guess. I would suspect the book isn't as shallow and tricky or as full of portentous philosophysing as the movie, so will be an improvement if the idea whets your fancy. Great cast. I must say. I didn't even recognise David Bowie and was much impressed. Michael Caine was at his best, too. Nice sets. An aside -- I made a serious mistake ordering popcorn and soft drinks for the party, forgetting that 'medium' in American means GIGANTIC. Also cost about four times more than the tickets.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

Saw an interview some time ago with Sigourney Weaver on how she prepared for the role in Snow Cake- it grabbed my interest, so thanks for the recommendation.
And Alan Rickman is definitely a favourite actor of mine - leaving aside Harry Potter (eek) I loved him in Galaxy Quest and (minor role) in Dogma.
Miqqe - you mentioned The Queen. My wife saw it a coupe of weeks ago and highly recommends it. On a side note, Michael Sheen (Tony Blair) mentioned in the Telegraph that one of the roles he'd love to play is none other than Elric of Melnibone!
Though I wouldn't personally include him in the Elric Movie Casting Archive ...

Alan Rickman is very good, mind you, also as "Snape" in the Harry Potter series, he is one of the few therein who leaves an impression after all, and it is certainly a most difficult part to play.
I would love to see him on the Elric movie, even suggested him as Elric here when the first discussions started, but now I think a younger Elric would be better.
Snow Cake is definitely earmarked for watching when the film gets shown here.Last edited by L'Etranger; 10-23-2006, 06:53 AM.Google ergo sum
