A question of your early eductation

Mr. Moorcock, I am currently working on a term paper for my British Literature class at my high school which gives a quick biography of yourself followed by my personal reviews of your works. I have just one question of your child-hood... Which school did you first attend? And how long did you take class there? Thank you for your help, take care :D

I don't think it IS common knowledge. It was an infantas school in Robin Hood Lane (I think) Mitcham, Surrey. I didn't go there long, if that's the one I'm thinking of, because it got hit by a V2 (flying bomb) one weekend.
I went to another infants school in Shirley, near Croydon, for a short while and then went to Michael Hall, Sussex, as a boarder. I ran away from there several times until they expelled me for running away, which seemed a bit ironic... Then I went to a private school in Norbury, whose name I forget, then to Pitman's College, which I left at 15. As I used to say on my early paperbacks, I was educated widely but not well. Essentially, I had an uneasy time with my schools and stayed nowhere for very long. I am mostly self-educated and have many of the enthusiasms and attitudes common to auto-didacts, which includes a much broader taste in all the arts than most people of my generation generally have and an enthusiasm for 'obscure' writers and artists. I've noticed that Colin Wilson, author of The Outsider, shows similar attitudes and tastes, though not the same as mine. I was lucky, as I've also said elsewhere, in that I didn't know I was 'too young' to beome a professional writer at 16 and an editor at 17! Another characteristic of self-educated people.
