You can find the entire Jazz Fan Vol. 1 No. 8 in the Put Your Images Here album in Limbo. This location will change soon and we'll post a message in this thread. Thanks goes to a friend of the site (I'll put this person's name here once I have permission to do so) and Typhoid Mary, both of whom will be working in tandom with my help as well. More of this kind of image will be coming in at a slow low volume pace. But some treasures await us and I am excited for what we will see as time goes by.

Quite makes me want to go out and buy that Bix Beiderbecke double CD I saw the other day!

Bill was more than a pen pal. I recall a time in Liverpool when he was insisting that I and a couple of other people come down the Cavern with him to hear this great new band who were friends of his -- the Beatles.
Bugger off, Bill, we said. We're tired to having to listen to these fake
American imitators... Not the first story I have of that kind. It was Bill who brought me and Pink Floyd together, too, as well as trying to get NW to ask for a grant from Apple. There were so many freeloaders there that I wound up telling Derek Malcolm and George Harrison that I didn't want a handout. George seemed somewhat relieved, I must say. I had them buy some advertising space, instead... Very fond of Bill. Sorry we're not in touch any more. He was at Art School with Mal Dean and it might have been Bill who put Mal in touch with me. A catalyst, that lad.
His own fanzine was the first place to publish Bill Tidy!

It certainly is, Mikey. It seems to be in remarkably good condition. Most second-hand jazz mags I've seen (I definitely don't mean come across! ) have had at least some of the pages stuck together. :)

Bill Harry had this to say in a recent email I exchanged with him:

"Yes, I have fond memories of those early days and Mike's magazines."

Now that we have a confirmed email address, is anyone here knowledgeable enough to interview him? I wouldn't know what to ask him myself.

Can Bill be persuaded to guest on, or join the forum Berry? You could start a Bill Harry/MM thread. That way Mike could converse with Bill directly through cyberspace if he wanted and others could chip in too. I like the informal conversation you get here, where people can raise things that an interviewer might neglect or forget. Just a thought. Personally I think it would be excellent to have these two guys chatting about their early days again after all these years, if both are willing.

Failing that, I'd be willing to think of and email Bill some questions that he could respond to, to create an 'interview'. Or we could all send you questions, you can pick the best ones and email them to Bill?
