News: New book on MM's work on its way!

Delighted to announce that my book-length study of Mike's work, MICHAEL MOORCOCK: FICTION, FANTASY AND THE WORLD'S PAIN, has gone through copyediting and entered the early stages of production (typesetting, etc.). It's a bit scholarly (but not too scholarly), a bit critical (but not too critical), and enthusiastic all the way through. Hey, I wrote it with Miscellany members in mind every step of the way.

Release date should be sometime (hopefully early) next year. My publishers have just put up a web page --

Sounds exciting. McFarland puts out some really interesting books.

I headed over there and put in my preorder. Now, even though I dislike summer, I've got something to look forward to in that season.

Ever had a parking ticket from a hospital for parking in a non-blocking, non-dangerous place (for an appointment involving a foot wound) for $550 ? That's what we just got that's making us agitated in Austin!

A $550 parking ticket?! That's outrageous.

In Chicago the latest thing thieves are grabbing are the wheels off parked cars. They take the wheels, and leave the car on cinder blocks.

A woman had this happen to her car and then she was ticketed for not moving her car to allow for street cleaning.

Common sense did emerge when she explained to the judge why she hadn't moved her car. But she did have to go to court to get it settled.

Going a bit off-topic... the Danish motorcycle speedway racer Ole Olsen is said to have been fined for driving his bike WITH a helmet. Sometime back in the 1960'es or something. You see, it was considered that a helmet was part of the uniform of rogues and ruffians. Of course, a decade or two later, security concerns outlawed driving WITHOUT a helmet. My, how times change.
