Just making sure The Circle Squared hasn't floated away. I saw all of the flooding around Bastrop on the news. I hope you, Linda, and the cats aren't under water.

Lightning fried our bloody expensive multisystem VCR and I lost
an article I was working on and had to redo it but aside from a couple of small lakes on either side of the house we seem to have escaped the worst of it. Thanks for asking!Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

From the sounds of it, you'll want to have a foot in Texas to escape your blazing hot summers in Spain...The cat spread its wings and flew high into the air, hovering to keep pace with them as they moved cautiously toward the city. Then, as they climbed over the rubble of what had once been a gateway and began to make their way through piles of weed-grown masonry, the cat flew to the squat building with the yellow dome upon its roof. It flew twice around the dome and then came back to settle on Jhary's shoulder. - The King of the Swords

err, considering recent health issues, I want to point out that the above message WAS NOT an intended pun.The cat spread its wings and flew high into the air, hovering to keep pace with them as they moved cautiously toward the city. Glub. Yes, they used Bastrop as an example of high water levels on the local news. The local park was well under, as were many lamp-posts and such. It seems to be going down slowly now and the lake around our house has definitely subsided. It's now sharp and cool (for Texas -- i.e. in the low fifties) and a perfect Thanksgiving day. The allergens also seem lower. But it's the cedar fever will drive me out, ultimately, rather than rains, tornadoes and such. I was so much better while in Spain and France. That said, the chances of leaving a foot in Texas are not so great as they were. Doctor at the clinic last week was astonished at how well I'd healed. He believes it has much to do with the environment I was experiencing in Europe -- and not just the climate. Given that they were originally telling me I'd probably lose my leg, or that I would have to have a series of painful grafts, it's amazing how well I've healed. Much of this has to do with Linda, of course, as well as the great team at the St David's wound clinic in Austin.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

A number of factors. Yes, I felt so much better emotionally in Europe (though I might also feel as good in some of the 'blue' States...). The Texas climate has done me a fair bit of damage pretty much since I got here, so that has also been a factor in my general lack of good health (I'm naturally pretty healthy). I do have a very 'nordic' skin type which isn't very happy in the Texas climate -- I blister very quickly from anything metal, some plastics and various other materials, next to my skin.
Yes, I believe some of us are simply better off in the climates for which our ancestors originally adapted. After all, it took thousands of years for us to go from our basic African prototype to the Scandinavian model.
I was also luckier than many because I had extremely good collateral veins, which took over from the blocked artery. These came in useful when I was doing more walking in Europe (as one does). The car culture hasn't don't me a lot of good. I suspect if I'd kept walking, as I used to pretty much every day in London, Oxfordshire or Yorkshire, I wouldn't have had any of the trouble I've had for the last three years.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

Cheers. It really is worth keeping those collaterals up to scratch. I'm pretty sure that without them I would no longer have my leg. And there are vascular guys out there now who are getting better and better and manipulating veins, clots and the like, which is encouraging, as you no doubt already know.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:
