Your timing is pretty good. Watch for an announcement in the next few minutes.

Thanks for the information, Berry. I don't really need the data. I tend to calculate stuff (e.g., the membership extrapolation) in my head as a side effect of my mathematical mindset. (I've often wondered about the dividing line between mathematicians and delusional numerologists.)

I was just providing a data point based on observation. Your remarks about the number of casual visitors we have per month gives us some feeling for the "upside" of MWM membership. When it reaches a certain size, I wonder whether the current HW+SW setup will "scale."

There are other interesting considerations about the impact of greater and greater numbers of members -- not simply technical ones -- but we should leave that to some other time.

~30% of our guests are search engines

we get ~10,000 unique visitors each month

the vast majority of those visits last 2 minutes or less

I cannot provide logs for the last year because of the crappy nature of our web hosts.

I've been paying casual attention to the growth rate of membership in MWM over the last several months. Extrapolating the current trend, I predict we'll hit 2000 members sometime in early July.

There are a lot of "guests" who look at the site, and there are also a number of members who join but are no longer, or never became, active participants. Hard to say what the effective participation is these days without more data.

Or the one I can feel through my dressing gown because my Dad insists on opening windows in the conservatory no matter how cold it is outdoors.

Little snapshot of my life there. Sorry.

Who was the first person to take the oath?

I signed up in early Dec. so I should be in charge of explosives!

Happy 1000th also, from a likewise shiny newbie. :)

I guess we are all Berry's and Mike's cohorts. 8)

(Not too many people realize the martial Roman origin of that word, which is usually equated to "henchmen" or "lackeys" nowadays.)

And don't forget that Centurions must be appointed. I think the
position of Imperator is taken. ;)

If I were ever to form a really bad Swedish Death Metal Radiohead cover band, I would call them The Legion Calculation. Fact.
