Ladies and gentlemen, I think we just found another top contender for the role of Elric .

YOUNGER!
It's obvious that Del Torro ripped this off, aesthetically anyway..
I love his films, but hate everyone ripping off Mike.
Sure imitation is flattery, but SHEESH!
I don't think the guy playing the albino is young or androgynous enough.
Why would anyone play 2 long white haired white skinned albinos twice?
But of course Paul Bettany.
I hope this movie gets made soon.
Paul B.may be a bit too old now!
We need someone young and fair of face. Tapered features, high cheekbones.
Good looking! (there, I said it!)

Eh, I don't like his build.
Also, I've noticed that Hollywood has a real problem with creating pale characters. Whenever they try, it just looks like a person covered in heavily caked makeup or clay, rather than smooth white skin. Like it would flake if you touched it. I wonder if there is some kind of issue there, or if they do it intentionally.

I believe the Hellboy 2 villain is actually played by Luke Goss, former frontman of 80's boy-band "Bros".

Nuada (the villain's name) is a warrior first and foremost, his build reflects that. Elric would be have to be thinner by comparison.

I think the issue is the type of paint that some SFX makeup artists use. IMO for a realistic albino it should be a semi translucent polymer glaze that's airbrushed on, with different tones (ie: pink and blue) applied one on top of the other so that it doesn't look flat. When you use opaque cake makeup it looks a lot less realistic though I understand they use the latter because it's less labor intensive and costly.

Well, yes, I don't like his build for Elric. I know nothing of this other franchise so I wouldn't comment on it myself.

I don't mind the flat colour, I was referring mostly to the texture. They seem to do red and blue skin just fine, but the white always looks too rough and thick to be skin. Good examples are both this Nuada character and the Uber-Morlock. I'm inclined to think that the problem is the actors they put the white makeup on are never themselves pale, so quite a lot of thick makeup is needed. It is easier to darken skin than to lighten it.
Anyway, I guess that is going off the topic.

I'm surprised! Normally non-acting celebrities are such poor actors that they reek even in trailers.

One hint is his epithet: 'Silverspear'. Nuada knows magic (he's a Sidhe after all) but he isn't what I would call a true sorcerer.

Airbrushed paint has a far smoother finish because of the manner in which it is applied. Opaque makeup does not allow for any color to show through so you end up with the dreaded mime look ...

He also played a vampire in one of the Blade movies IIRC. I didn't even know he was an ex-musician...

If the cinematography of Elric was done the way Hellboy 2 is doing it(how the director is lighting the scenes), Elric would look a bit silly in my opinion.
There is a film that made the lead character portray a nihilistic dark aura, while having silver fox light hair. That movie is Collateral. They used digital camera's with the gain cranked up to give a unique look to the movie.
On the extra's dvd they show how they added light sources that they had custom made out of some special material. They pasted them into cab and the way the light bounced off of the enviroment and the actors faces worked really well.
Elric's face would need to be lit in a fashion like Tom Cruise was in Collateral, in order to really capture an audiences imagination. He was a pseudo albino in Collateral, wearing a light gray suit and frosted hair. The juxtapostion of his presence against the movies background enviroment is moody. That how you get Elric to make an impact.

The fact that this guy looks slightly like Elric doesn't mean that he's a rip-off of the character. If you hadn't noticed, evil-albinos aren't exactly an original concept. Being a fan of the Hellboy franchise as much as Elric's, I'm pretty sure this fellow is an original character. He has that Hellboy sort of "feel", you know?

Another reason I doubt that this Hellboy villain is an Elric rip-off is because, as much as I hate to admit it, Moorcock isn't quite a house-hold name. Not in the states, anyway. I don't know, but somehow I wouldn't feel completely comfortable making a bet that Del Torro is familiar with our beloved sorcerer-king.

I think this Luke Goss guy is really well suited for the role.
If I had not known it was a clip from Hellboy 2 I would have said "Hey, but this is Elric!!" He is really close to what I had always imagined our favourite Dark Prince.
I really liked him. And I really liked the clip in general.
(Anxiously waiting for Hellboy 2)

I'm a great fan of Hellboy and Del Torro, also. I haven't seen the clip but am looking forward to the movie. I guess some correspondents here don't remember the Elric, Corum, Hawkmoon comics of the eighties. Mike Mignola drew Corum. I loved it then. He was the perfect artist for those stories. Since then, apart from one project in the 90s, we haven't, as it were, had a chance to work together.

Loved those eighties comics. The Elric , from the clip, is more like a Walter Simonson take on the man. Interesting BBC 4 program ( radio show IOT M Bragg and the boffins ) talking about the muliverse. No mention of MM, these guys must live in another dimension.

If you have ever met someone with actual albinism, they often do have a look that goes beyond just "pale" , and it can look a bit on the "powdery" side
