What's to stop him from working out a little? Oo; Plus that's only a picture of the guy. it's not a recent shot. x.x
Anyway. I thought of him because I picture Elric's voice to be a little soft, not at all deep. Plus Elric is described as having weak blood. We're not told that he as Rock muscles on him. Elric's voice is also described as melodic when he chants.
*shrugs* I like ville and think he'd be perfect for the role. I guess it's just me then.

I think that Elrik should held the stormbringer... he can't be small! well neither enourms...well the write sise!
Just saw this thread after posting the following in another thread, i'll just quote it here, ignore the first paragraph :)
Quote:
I know this post is a 'how about Johnny Depp as Elric?' post, not a 'everyone suggest any actor other than Johnny Depp for Elric!' post, but i have a casting suggestion that i think might be interesting. I agree Johnny Depp is a fine actor who has successfully portrayed many characters, but i just don't see him as Elric. He's quirky, he's alternative, he's insane and humourous, but he's just not the intelligent, ruthless, sardonic type, that i feel are major points of Elric's personality.
My suggestion is Julian Rhind-Tutt. He's a little known British TV actor who is probably most noted so far for playing the character of Dr 'Mac' Marcarthy in the hospital based comedy Green Wing, although he has had a number of small roles in films such as The Madness of King George, Tomorrow Never Dies, Notting Hill and most recently Stardust. He also appeared in a more unsavoury role in the most recent TV adaptation of Oliver. Hmm, reading that last paragraph i sound like his agent or something, i'm not, i'm just a Green Wing fan , and thought he was good in it. I think he could play sharp, sardonic, slightly cruel but also noble and courteous, how i see Elric. Also he'd fulfil the physical role, tall, thin and gaunt, almost sickly looking even.
I think these guys are too old to play elric. Paul Bettany from the Da Vinci code looks perfect. Pale, frail looking, but with a smoldering intensity. That scene where he whacks the nun with the book and kills her...and then he performs the last rites on her (from Da Vinci code) was intense. I can totally see him as Elric. You know, killing somebody with Stormbringer, but hating/loving it at the same time.
I sooooo hope that whoever is making this movie takes it seriously, like they did with Lord of the Rings.
Try to keep in mind that Elric's not strong on his own. He has the aid of sorcerous drugs and potions to give the strength. Plus I don't think he is suppose to appear rough and as though he should be in the mountains.
Before he gains stormbringer. So I don't think he would have been able to "bulk up" and get a six pack.
Marc Warren, charismatic, weirdly handsome british actor.

Well, to me, the face has to match the Melnibonean archetype....elongated, high cheekbones, so forth.
The Marc Warren fellow has that facial look in the eyes and the set of the mouth, but the face isn't long enough. Probably best, as I have said otherwheres, to find a no-name.
You know who would have been just a fantastic Melnibonean, maybe as Elric's old retainer? The fellow who played the Andorean ambassador in the original Star Trek episode "Tower of Babel", who talks about the planet under controversy...even his odd accent would have been perfect.
Maybe Leonard Nimoy would be a good choice for Elric's retainer, a cameo that would garner quite a cache of moviegoing tickets for his appearance alone....

I was thinking about Marc Warren for the role recently. I agree with Tony on this. He does have an almost eldritch look about him - Marc Warren that is. I think he'd bring something to the role. He certainly has the skills to bring it off, he's been in a few things recently as well, Hogfather, Band of Brothers, DW. He gets my vote.

I think Bettany would be a perfect fit for all the reasons you state.
It may sounds cliche, but I'd almost rather have Peter Jackson do the movie(s) because of what he did with LOTR and King Kong - I just think his vision for a fantasy world is deeper than a lot of other directors in this genre.
the guy who played john tracey was right. very pale hair and tall and handsome.
dont know his name, but hes right.
paul bettany would feel the need to strip off. he does in everything. i dont want to see elric naked unless hes in a right situation, not just randomly, like bettany.
how about daniel craig. hes a bit rough but hes handsome and powerful and talented. or for someone else.
Last night, me and my other half went to see Hellboy II and the Golden Army...
We were both quite shocked to see Elric straight out of the Rodney Matthews/MM collaboration of "Elric at the End of Time" played by Luke Goss (otherwise known as Prince Nuada). Go see it. You'll see what I mean!!!
I don't think I'm alone saying this...(from http://comiccoverage.typepad.com/com...e/tv_and_film/)
"I'm of two minds on the character of Prince Nuada. One one hand, I thought he was by far the most entertaining character in the entire movie, due to both his stunning visual look and the performance of actor Luke Goss. On the other hand, I found myself feeling irritated with director Guillermo Del Toro for essentially ripping-off Michael Moorcock's legendary fantasy character Elric of Melnibone. In addition to Prince Nuada being a visual dead-ringer for the albino adventurer, Nuada's imperious demeanor, sorcerous trappings, and ruthless fighting skill more than evoked Moorcock's most famous creation. Yeah, freaky albino bad guys are nothing new in cinema...but Nuada was so close in look and style to Elric, that it went past "homage" and straight into "rip-off" territory for me. It's especially irritating considering the rest of the movie is such a faithful translation of Hellboy creator Mike Mignola's unique visual vocabulary, that you'd think there would be no need to so flagrantly "smuggle" the image of Elric into the movie. Very, very disappointing....yet at the same time, incredibly cool to see this pseudo-Elric running around on film. The phrase "so close, yet so far" comes to mind (I hope Michael Moorcock gets a taste of the film's likely profits). "
Im so glad I'm not the only one who thought that Luke Goss played a great Elric... Sorry, Prince Nuada in Hellboy. I think you have to bear in mind that Del Toro is a massive fan of all sorts of stuff, and If Nuada's look was inspired by Elric (whats the chances of that then?), that Del Toro knows and did it on purpose as a "homage".
Who knows, Maybe hes pitching for directing it after hes done the Hobbit!
Still, it proves it could be done with a relatively unknown actor like Goss and done well. (Yes, I know he used to be in Bros in the 80's, but you cant fault the guy for the performances hes put in since those days!)
Personally, I think he's a perfect choice for Elric in build, acting ability and presence of character. Paul Bethany is a great actor, but isnt he like 6ft tall?
I'd vote for Luke Goss. His portrayal of Prince Nuada in Hellboy II reminded me of Elric. He's got the physique and the look to be quite convincing in that role IMHO.
