BY TARDIS THROUGH THE MULTIVERSE
Looks like it's official. I'll be doing a new Dr Who novel (not a tie-in) for appearance, I understand, by next Christmas. Still have to have talks etc. with producers and publishers but we should be signing shortly. Should be fun.

A black soul-sucking Tardis? Nice! It's been a goodie-two-shoes for far too long!

Good lord! It's two of my greatest heroes combining forces! Now all you have to do is set a few key scenes in Edwardian England and have the Doctor strolling down Baker Street and casually noting, on the opposite pavement, an intense, lean-looking man with a boy and a bloodhound!

You know, it's a bit of a crazy thing, but I have absolutely no knowledge of Doctor Who , beyond the name. It's one of those things that just never entered my field of consciousness (for whatever reason). Perhaps I should rectify that in time for Mike's take on the character.

Wow! I'm gob-smacked!
Once everything's signed an' all, can you say how the opportunity came about, Mike? Did 'they' (BBC Books?, Steven Moffat?, the BBC?) approach you or did you submit a proposal?
ETA: That's assuming, of course, it's a BBC novel; there are other publishers of licenced DW novels, such as Telos Publishing.

Lions prowled, their bodies green and their manes orange, turning into blindingly bright, abstract patterns that were no less terrifying.
_For an eternity Allard was alone in an icy limbo where all the colours were bright and sharp and comfortless.
_For another eternity Allard swam through seas without end, all green and cool and deep, where distorted creatures drifted, sometimes attacking him.
_And then, at last, he had reached the real world – the world he had created, where he was God and could create or destroy whatever he wished.
_He was supremely powerful. He told planets to destroy themselves, and they did. He created suns. Beautiful women flocked to be his. Of all men, he was the mightiest. Of all gods, he was the greatest."

If Steve Moffat turns around and offers you a script slot for 2012 I think my brain would explode...

BBC books approached my agent. I didn't realise David T was, as it were, still the Dr. I thought the new ones were already showing. They are pretty much unknown in France. Not, of course, in the US!

Now this is going to be really interesting - hope you manage to throw in a few surprises.
I haven't bought a Dr Who novel since about 1974...

You are KIDDING me!!!! This is great news!!!!
Can we denizens of the Multiverse have ummm "walk-on parts" in the book? We all know you've done Easter eggs like that before ("Drallab" "K'cocroom" etc).
That would be the best in-joke ever!

If it gets adapted to TV or film, will there be a Hawkwind/The Deep Fix cover of the theme music?

That is incredibly cool. To be honest I've never read any of the books (that's about to change), just watched the TV shows. Though I've only caught some of the new series, shame on me. Congrat's Mr. M.
---------------later-------------
This may be a silly question (I'm known well for them) but does this mean a published Dr. Who novel and then the show? I'm confused.
