I didn't even know it was a flop. I thought the movie was great and refreshingly different from most "copy and paste" Sci-Fi movies, that flood the big screen.
I can't get terrestrial television where I am though,(Which is actually a blessing), but when I saw it on the DVD shelves, I got really excited and wasn't disappointed at all.
There are so many great movies though, that are reported as flops, just because they have plots that maybe a bit of a stretch for the average punter.
Critics remind me of kids playing musical chairs, none of them wants to be the one standing when the music stops. But if the profit determines the success, then I don't really care anyway, as long as I get to watch it. Besides, they end up in the $10 bin faster, hehe.

We saw Heavens Gate and loved it and we didn't know it was a flop until we heard later! When Citizen Kane and Wizard of Oz were both initially 'flops' John Carter's in excellent company. How I wish they could produce a TV series out of it. I've done all I can to support it. Saw the movie in 3D AND Imax, bought a BlueRay player just so I could watch that version of JC! Yes, I am a fan... Oh, my second BR purchase was the director's cut of HG...
