What astonishingly bad news to get.
My best wishes for a complete recovery.
I'm sure his doctors and nurses are giving their all to get him through.

He's a little better, I gather, with a team standing by 24/7. His partner Sarah says she's astonished how good the NHS team is. Rob's not only a brilliant writer, he's also an exceptionally decent human being. We have to have him back with us.

This from Roy Kettle via Malcolm Edwards:

Today Sarah sounded in good spirits and said that the positive news is
that Rob remained stable overnight. He is in an isolation unit because
the medical team was concerned he might have swine flu but, though that
has been ruled out, he remains in the unit. Sarah's pleased about this
because it means he is having the best possible treatment that the
hospital can provide. She is increasingly impressed by the care,
dedication and hard work of the NHS team - mentioning particularly the
overnight nurse and, again, Professor Hugh Montgomery who leads the
team. Sarah said that Professor Montgomery has had a couple of books
published, of which this is one *http://tinyurl.com/yagwwhw - *both are

epic poems for children that sound right up Rob's street.

Sarah hopes to be able to pass on further news this evening. She is
very grateful for, and extremely touched by, all the good wishes and
messages that she and Rob have received. I'm passing on all those I get
but she also manages to look at emails and cards/letters that arrive at
home though obviously hasn't yet got enough time away from the hospital
to be able to reply personally.

All our love and hopes continue for Rob.

Best wishes

Roy

Sorry, I don't know it. If Roy or Sarah make it public, I'll pass it on. Mythago Wood is a book Cawthorn and I put in our 100 Best Fantasy Novels. Brilliant. He just published a sequel. Beautiful and original notion.

He's a brillant writer...and by the sounds, an equally genuine person...

My thoughts go out to them. I hope it all turns out well.

Shocked to hear Rob has been so ill. He is a lovely bloke - met him twice, really pleasant guy and a superb writer. Sarah is fantastic too, had a fantastic conversation with her when I was a very small fish in a big pond at an event held at Tiger Tiger for Chris Priest a few years ago.

Mythago is in my 100 Must-Read Fantasy Novels, too. You guys have to read it if you've not.

Get well Rob!!!!!!

Two stable nights in succession with very slight improvements. Sarah
knows it will be a long haul for Rob and that improvements will be tiny
and gradual. Obviously he remains very sick indeed, but things are
moving a little bit in the right direction.

You might want to put a link on your website to Ansible where Dave
Langford updates news about Rob's progress in a basic way.

Best wishes
